The 2022-2023 high school basketball season is about to flip to the page to 2023, and with that comes the first girl’s basketball RPI rankings of the season.

The Carbon Lady Dinos are featured as the No. 5 team in the 3A classification according to the UHSAA RPI rankings. With an overall rating of 0.625, the Lady Dinos sit just .011 behind second place Morgan High School. Juab, Richfield, Morgan and Grantsville are the four teams placed above the Dinos. The Lady Dinos have a 51-43 win over the No. 1 ranked Grantsville Cowboys and will face the No. 3 ranked Richfield Wildcats twice during region play. Carbon started the season 9-3 and will play one final non-region game (against the Union Cougars) before opening region play against Richfield, on Jan. 10.

Emery checked into the 3A classification RPI rankings as the No. 10 ranked team. The Lady Spartans have an overall rating of 0.580 after a 6-3 start to the season. After a 2-3 start to the season, the Lady Spartans have found a groove, winning four-straight games. Emery’s No. 10 ranking makes all four Region 12 teams ranked in the RPI top 10. Emery will play four more non-region games before opening Region 12 play against No. 6 ranked Canyon View on Jan. 10.

Moving to the 1A classification, the 1-9 Green River Lady Pirates check in as the No. 16 ranked team. The Lady Pirates picked up their first win of the season in a preseason tournament against the Rockwell Marshals, 47-31. Region play begins for Green River on Friday, Jan. 6 on the road against Whitehorse.

The Pinnacle Lady Panthers came in as the No. 19 1A team after a 2-7 start this season. Pinnacle’s two wins have come against 2A Merit Prep Academy and the Utah Military Academy. Pinnacle will play four non-region games before their region opener against Green River on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
