What a long strange season it has been for the Carbon Dino swim team. With the renovations going on at the indoor pool in Price, the Dinos were unable to have a home meet this season, but water is water as they have put together a pretty successful 2022-2023 campaign. The regular season came to an end in Castle Dale at the Emery County Aquatic Center for the Last Chance Invitational. The Carbon girls grabbed first place on their side of the pool while the boys team finished the day in second.

The indoor pool has been undergoing some serious renovations and when the facility opens (in time for next season) it will be brand new with a fresh coat of paint on all the walls, the ceiling refinished and a state of the art pool.

There are only two events left on the calendar this year however, the regional meet in Richfield and the State Championships in Provo at Brigham Young University.

The Carbon girls finished in first place with 417 points followed closely by Emery who landed in second with 409.5. Richfield, Grand, Gunnison and South Sevier made up the rest of the field.

For the Dinos, Evie Halk came up big in the most grueling race, the 500 free, her time of 6:25.94 was enough to earn first place, finishing a full six seconds ahead of second. Alyssa Chamberlain earned a first place finish in the 50 free with her time of 27.58, and also collected a second place finish in the 100 free. Ember Lyman finished third in the 100 yard breast stroke, and Lindsie Fausett claimed a third place finish in the 500 free.

In relays, Chamberlain, Halk, Lyman and Mia Crompton, swam their way to a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. In the 400 relay, Ada Bradford, Kanyon Christensen, Lisa King and Fausett earned second place.

The Emery Spartans claimed first place for the boys with 389.5 points, Carbon finished in second with 369. Richfield, Grand, South Sevier, and Gunnison rounded out the rest of the field.

Mason Engar earned a couple of top finishes for the Dinos with a second place finish in the 500 free and a third in the 100 yard back stroke. Gabe Ibanez had a second place finish  in both the 200 individual medley and the 100 back stroke. Nathan Engar earned a second place in the 50 free, and Cameron Jones swam to a second place finish in the 100 free.

Carbon earned the top spot in the 200 medley relay with the team of Mason Engar, Nathan Engar, Ibanez and Spencer Tullis with their time of 1:55.14. And the Dino team of Leland Kespel, Garrett Black Boyd Bradford and Jones finished third in the 400 relay.

Carbon will travel to Richfield on Thursday for the Region 12 Championships and then will head to the State Championships on February 10 & 11, at BYU.
