The Carbon County Senior Center is a great place to be as they’re always keeping their folks busy with the numerous services, activities and events. They recently hired Rebecca Taylor as the new Senior Affairs Director, as Robbie Jensen will now manage the Senior Centers in Emery County.

Taylor was very excited to obtain the position at the Carbon County Senior Center and brings with her a degree and experience in working with Seniors. “Interesting enough its very rare you see a job posting for someone who has a degree in Gerontology that doesn’t happen a whole lot, especially in Carbon County. Believe it or not I have a degree in Gerontology and my Bachelor’s Degree is in Public Health. But I decided to get a minor in Gerontology, I had a professor who kind of talked me into that, as I was helping with a few things related to the health department, but specifically related to senior citizens and older people,” explained Taylor. Her previous employment was the Administrator for Good Life Senior Living in Price. She started her new position at the Senior Center in Dec. and is looking forward to working with the seniors of Carbon County.

She was excited to let listeners know what the seniors have been up to and what activities will be taking place at the center. “You know we have our weekly, daily things you know that we do all the time. You know we got a beautiful billiard room where they love to play pool. We have our library, our ladies wanted us to put a plug in there, they’ve got so many books, if you’re looking for a book. Our ceramics room, we have our line dancers who practice several days a week, and they do their Zumba, they’re exercising, our exercise room is available every day. All of these things are getting used on a regular basis,” stated Taylor. The Carbon County Senior Center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and is located at 418 South Fairgrounds Way. The East Carbon Center is located at 451 Denver Avenue in East Carbon with the same operational hours.

“A couple of things we do have coming up though, that are super fun, we have a Valentine’s Dance that we are planning. I think it’s been a little while since they’ve done this. So Feb. 10 at 6:00 pm there’s going to be Valentine’s dance out at the Senior Center. The buses will be running for those seniors who may need a ride. We would love for the community to come on out, this is just for seniors, this is for anybody in the community who would like to come out and dance,” said Taylor. The admission is a suggested donation of $5.00. The center is also offering income tax assistance for seniors who need help filing their taxes. They can call the center to schedule an appointment with preparers.

All of the monthly events can be found in the Carbon County Senior Center’s free newsletter which is readily available at the center or by calling (435) 636-3202.
