The Green River Pirates were on the road Tuesday to face the Grand Red Devils. Grand plays in the 3A class and this season sits at 6-17 overall with a 0-7 region mark. Grand used a huge first quarter to set the tone for the rest of the contest, and Green River couldn’t recover taking a 76-38 loss.

Green River is sitting at 9-12 overall with a 2-4 region mark. Siting in the No. 15 spot in the 1A RPI, the Pirates now have three games left on the schedule before the end of the regular season.

On Tuesday night, the Pirates let the Red Devils take over at the tip, putting up 26 in the first quarter, all the while holding Green River to just eight points. The second was more Grand, as they pushed their offense and played tight defense taking a 46-19 lead into the locker room.

Coming out in the second half, Green River was able to put up 12 in the third, but the Red Devils offense was still clicking, scoring 19. In the final eight minutes, the Pirates only scored seven and fell to Grand 76-38.

Joe Vollmer scored 12 for the Pirates, with Luis Hernandez scoring 11 and Bridjer Meadows adding eight in the loss.

The three games remaining on the regular season schedule for the Pirates are all at home, starting with Saturday’s game against Whitehorse (8-10, 2-3 in region and No. 12).
