The Lady Dinos were coming off a win over the Delta Rabbits 63-50 on Thursday night at the 3A State Basketball Championships in Cedar City. Carbon couldn’t celebrate for long because they would have to be back on the same floor at 4 p.m. on Friday to face the No. 1 team in 3A, the Grantsville Cowboys. The Lady Dinos struggled from the opening committing 39 turnovers and falling to the Cowboys 62-21.

Carbon started slowly out of the gate, they would win the opening tip and turned the ball over, which was a recurring theme for the remainder of the game. Grantsville came out ready to take on any team that stood before them and unfortunately, the Lady Dinos were in the way. The Lady Cowboys put on an offensive and defensive display holding Carbon to two points in the first quarter and taking a 40-5 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Carbon had a little more life but, being down by 35 was going to be a tall mountain to climb. Even though Grantsville dialed it back a bit in the second half, the Lady Dinos could only manage 9 points in the third and another 7 in the final quarter, the gap was too hard to overcome, and Carbon’s championship hopes would melt away 62-21.

For the Lady Cowboys Baylee Lowder would lead all scorers with 23 points. McKenzie Allen had 16 points and added 12 steals and Ellie Thomas added five.

Three Dinos scored four points each, Tatum Tanner, Amiah Timothy, and Jenna Richards.

Carbon would have to move on from the loss and regroup quickly as they will face Richfield tomorrow for third place in 3A.

The game is set to tip-off at 1:20 Saturday.  Tune into KRPX 95.3 The Peak at 1:10 for the Landon’s Diesel Service Pre-game show. You can also stream all the action at castlecountryradio.com
