The Lady Dinos entered play on Saturday at the 3A State Championships in Cedar City knowing that win or lose, it was the last game of the season. After their loss to No. 1 Grantsville on Friday, they knew that the best finish they could hope for was third place. Meeting up with fellow Region 12 member and the No. 2 team, Richfield, Carbon used a second-half push but couldn’t find a path to victory falling to Richfield 47-43.

Carbon’s road to the third-place game started Thursday evening with a win over the Delta Rabbits,63-50. Turning around quickly, they faced the No. 1 Grantsville Cowboys, the Lady Dinos didn’t fair so well losing 62-21, landing them in the third-place game Saturday afternoon.

Richfield’s path started on Thursday as well with a win over Region 12 member Canyon View by a score of 54-40. On Friday, They faced the Morgan Trojans, the No. 3, taking a 60-52 loss.

Carbon once again got off to a slow start shooting just 17.4 % in the first half and scoring eight in the first quarter and two points in the second as Richfield took a 26-10 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Carbon came out doubling up the Lady Wildcats, scoring 16 in the quarter while holding Richfield to eight. The fourth quarter was big for the Lady Dinos, scoring 17 but wasn’t quite enough to overtake the damage in the first half, and Carbon’s season came to an end with a 47-43 loss.

Richfield’s Nicole Willardson led all scorers with 21 points, she also had six rebounds and seven blocked shots. Kamryn Knutson scored 11 with four boards.
