The Emery County Commission recently held a meeting on March 21 which means it’s time for Castle Country Radio to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard to find out what is taking place in Emery County. He took time from his busy schedule to talk about a Green River event, highlight another county department, and review details of the Commission Meeting.

Green River is hosting several upcoming events and one of those coming up in April is the Green River Dirt Bike Rally. “So the Dirt Bike Rally is April 13 through the April 15 and that’s in Green River. That’s for the dirt bike enthusiasts, I think they have different levels and different rides that people can go on to. If people are interested, they can go to https://www.greenriverdirtbikerally.com/#/ and look at it, see if you’re interested and maybe sign up for that event,” said Commissioner Leonard. Not only will there be lots of trail riding on dirt bikes but there will also be several vendors in attendance selling accessories for dirt bikes and other items as well.

Like most of Commissioner Leaonard’s monthly radio interviews, he always takes time to spotlight a county department and this time around the Emery County Recreation Department is being highlighted for their hard work. “So Winter sports are starting to finish up and signup for Spring sports – soccer, baseball, t-ball, all those things. They’re busy, they’re busy, I just wanted to spotlight them and the work that they do to improve our community through recreation and allowing our residents things to do. So its great to have the Rec District,” stated Commissioner Leaonard. The Emery County Recreation was also busy this winter overseeing the needs of the ice skating ponds in the county by having skate rentals.

The Emery County Commissioners held their annual meeting on Tuesday, March 21 and Leonard explains what was discussed, “There was a bond resolution with Castle Valley Special Service District. Now this bond allows the county to help improve sewage facilities, you know treatment, storage for water, transportation, curb and gutter, sidewalks, some of those smaller bridges and road projects that connect to those sidewalks and curbs and gutters.” The county appreciates that they have this bond so that they are able to improve facilities when needed.

Another thing that was discussed in the meeting was updating the county’s General Plan. “We’re going to have our different entities, all that are involved in that process to make sure that when we do review the General Plan, we have everybody in mind what we’re going to move forward in the next 5 to 8 years when we decide to redo the plan,” said Commissioner Leonard. This process will take a lot of community involvement and further details will be shared as they become available.

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
