The United Way of Eastern Utah recently received a donation from Rocky Mountain Power to assist the organization with their various programs.  Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Director, Pam Boyd to talk about all the details.

“So last Friday they presented us a check for $31,590.00 and that represents donations from cooperate giving, it represents donations from Rocky Mountain Power Foundation, and really close to our hearts, you know it represents money that employees have given to United Way of Eastern Utah through paycheck donations, and through workplace fundraisers. I just can’t be more dumbfounded by the amount and more grateful for the support,” said Boyd. Rocky Mountain Power is a cornerstone that allows United Way of Eastern Utah to build up their programs.

The cornerstone monies are unlike a grant where you have to spend the monies in a certain way. This money can be used across the board to assist with all United Way of Eastern Utah programs. “But why this Rocky Mountain Power Foundation – power company donation is so important that is also means that we can use the money from that to buy shoes. We can also use it on gas, and we can take our Pop-up Shoe Shop down and out through different parts of the district. So for instance we did a Pop-up Shoe Shop up in Monticello in September. You know it costs a lot of money to fill up your trailer and your truck to get down to Monticello with a big load of shoes. You know there’s just other costs associated with doing these programs that aren’t the product themselves,” said Boyd. The Pop-up Shoe Shop was a new program implemented this last year and it proved to be very helpful for recipients.

The amount of money that was donated by Rocky Mountain Power is huge and it now allows United Way of Eastern Utah to be able to serve its entire region better. “We are a seven-county, Eastern Utah they are not kidding when they say Eastern Utah. Because we range from Daggett County down to San Juan County, and just the whole space of ground between Utah and the Colorado border. So we’re really excited that we can reach out and do more in that area and that’s because of Rocky Mountain Power we can do that,” said Boyd. She also pledged that the money would go towards fulfilling the mission of United Way of Eastern Utah.
