021-2

Lady Dino softball had won eight of their last nine when they faced the Duchesne Eagles. Carbon had just come off an 8-1 win over Emery sweeping the season series.  The Dinos were not very lucky as the Eagles handed Carbon a 3-1 loss. Then just two days later, they would welcome the Canyon View Falcons claiming an 8-2 region victory.

The Duchesne game was hotly contested with the Eagles putting up a single run in the second inning. Two innings later the Dinos scored one run of their own when Gabby Vasquez sent a sacrifice fly to center scoring Makayla Scovill, that would be the only run that Carbon would score. In the top of the sixth, the Eagles put up another two runs taking the lead and the win.

Pitcher Kelsey Grant for the Eagles allowed just one hit from the bat of Adri Abeyta for the Dinos. Vasquez earned the RBI and Scovill scored one run.

Kylan Sorenson went four innings giving up four hits and one earned run. Haven Byerly took the loss going three, surrendering one earned, and striking out eight.

The Lady Dinos needed to put that game behind them because two days later they would welcome Region 12 member Canyon View to Price. This game was more to the Dinos liking taking an 8-2 win.

Byerly was on the mound and pitched another gem getting the complete game win, allowing just four hits and a pair of earned runs while walking four and striking out 12.

Offensively, the Dinos started out scoring two runs in the first two innings, it was the fourth where the Dinos put the Eagles away.

With the score tied at 2-2, Scovill came up to the plate with two outs and would send a single to left driving in Sorenson and Abeyta. Next up was Jenna Richards sent a fly ball over the center field fence bringing home Scovill making the score 6-2.

Carbon went quiet again till the bottom of the sixth and once again with a pair of outs, Byerly came up to the plate and helping her own cause sent one over the wall in left, scoring Danica Adams and securing the 8-2 win.

Scovill went 3-4, having a solo home run in the first, earned three RBI’s and a pair of runs scored. Vasquez and Sorenson had 2-3 days at the plate with Sorenson adding a run. Byerly went 2-4 driving in two and scoring a run.

Carbon is still sitting unbeaten in Region 12 play, and they will face Grand in a doubleheader on Tuesday.
