The Carbon Dinos protected their home field and earned a 2-0 win over the Canyon View Falcons in the second round of the 3A State Tournament Wednesday afternoon at Carbon High School.

Entering the state tournament as the No. 5 seed, the Dinos earned the right to host an opening round matchup. The team started fast, scoring two goals in the opening half. The 2-0 lead at the break was held over the final 40 minutes, propelling Carbon into the second round.

Logan McEvoy and Luke Brady both found the back of the net to give Carbon the comfortable two score lead. Tyler Morris registered one assist as the Dinos defeated Canyon View for the third time this season.

Dylan Curtis recorded the shutout at goalkeeper for Carbon, marking his third against Canyon View this season. The Dinos won each of the three matchups by a final score of 2-0.

Wednesday’s victory places Carbon in the quarterfinals against the No. 4 seed Morgan Trojans. Morgan defeated No. 13 Richfield 9-0 in the second round, advancing with ease.

The quarterfinals matchup with Morgan will take place on the road Saturday at 1:00 pm. The winner will advance to the semifinals on May 10.
