Guy Dean Jewkes, age 64, passed away peacefully at his home on May 17, 2023.

He was born April 14, 1959 in Grants, New Mexico, to Merrill and Louisa Watson Jewkes.

Guy married Alberta Pinkerton; later divorced. He then married his “Baby Doll,” Christina Quintana, on May 28, 1999 in Price, Utah.

He was born the youngest of five and moved around all over NM, AZ, UT, and CO, then back again. He had friends in each place, that they would pick up where they left off every time they saw each other. He had a Shetland pony named Smokey, and a squirrel. He always messed with the meanest cow in the field named Bloody Mary. His parents split when he was eight and he had to grow up fast and be tough. Because of that he never let anyone disrespect his mother again. He enjoyed hopping the train solo from Castle Gate to Price. His mom said he always made friends with and brought home hobos to eat dinner with them. Sometimes he would pack them a lunch.

He was a flirt since the time he could talk and never had trouble talking to the ladies. He learned to work in those early years, collecting Apache Tears, pop bottles and cans with his family for spending money and to go to stock car races. He was popular for being ambidextrous as he could catch and throw with both his right and left hands, but he only batted left. He enjoyed a good fight and never backed down from anyone. He’d always say, “They’re no rules in fighting when you’re getting your butt kicked.” In other words, you defend yourself at all costs.

He was a go getter and so proud he got his first job on his own. Countless others followed. He learned to hard rock at age 20 from his first father-in-law. They “tramped” all over the country drilling and blasting in copper, gold/ diamond mines and coal mines. It even took him abroad to Canada and Australia. It was his favorite part of work until he retired. He always spoke of how much he enjoyed the camaraderie in hard-rocking. He loved his work and took pride in it. He always left his signature mark “TITTS” on his work. His work was his favorite thing to talk about. If he wasn’t talking about work, he was talking about his kids and his yard. He was also very proud of his work on the Roosevelt dam and was a superintendent of the major expansion bridge. He never wanted to boss again because he didn’t like being in control of that many lives.

Guy loved his music! He could whistle to any tune. He was a fun dancer and was often found tapping his hand or foot to the rhythm. He loved his stereo and everyone knew not to touch it, especially his kids. He was quick like lightning and loud like thunder.

He was a Jack-of-all trades and a master of many. He enjoyed working on cars and trucks and didn’t believe in going to the shop for something you could do yourself. He was a Ford man and strictly drank Budweiser. He preferred it in the bottle. He loved his Minnesota Vikings and always rooted for the underdog. He was loved by animals and little kids, though he never understood it.

He had four near death experiences and always said he wasn’t afraid to die. He knew what it was like and felt peace each time. He wasn’t religious but he believed in God and he prayed for his family. He always said, “When your time card gets stamped there’s nothing you can do about it. When it’s your time to go, it your time to go.” He was an ornery one and would joke, “God ain’t letting me off this easy!”

Dad raised nine kids and helped with countless others. He may not have agreed with some of their choices, but they always knew they were loved by him, no question. He was always available to answer mechanic questions when they left home. If they needed to get home, they knew he would find a way.

His wife was his best friend and love of his life. He never let anyone disrespect her and never complained when she wanted to start a hobby. They enjoyed going in nature together, working in their yard (he loved his roses), taking their kids on trips and spending time with their friends, family and grandkids.

He enjoyed feeding people and would say, “If you leave this house hungry it’s your own damn fault.” He was known for his potato salad, and it was always requested for gatherings. He had a great laugh, and a sarcastic sense of humor that will be missed. We’ll miss seeing his pretty blue eyes, great big smile, him sitting on the front porch and finding him tinkering in the yard.

Guy is survived by his wife, Christina Jewkes, Carbonville; four daughters and five sons, Deanna (Jeremy) Wellman, Dingess, WV, Guy (Jessica) Jewkes, Jr., Parkersburg, WV, Davi’An Martinez, Price, Clinton Jewkes (Michelle Augustin), Merrimack, NH, Dezeray Martinez (Orelvis Lemus), Las Vegas, NV, Isaac Ochoa, Price, Raymond Gonzalez, Price, Drake Jewkes, Price, Azure Jewkes, Price; brother, Brent (Sandra) Jewkes, Ferron; sister, Trudy Lund, Emery; eight grandchildren, Courtney, Amelya, Ivy, Acazia, Layla, Guy III, Josiah and Fabian.
