Active Re-Entry offers several services for the community and one of those services offered is the PERKIE Travel Program. Castle Country Radio had Coordinator, Derek Jensen and Program Manager, Chris Haycock stopped by the radio station to talk about the PERKIE Travel Program and an upcoming Open House event.

“We offer transportation from our center or if you’re in Emery County we can help to arrange that, up to Timpanogos Regional Hospital, Revere Health, and Utah Valley Hospital for radiation treatments and post doctors’ visits for cancer patients,” said Jensen. This is a free service for individuals who are seeking cancer treatments in Utah County. This is just one less burden a patient has to worry about when receiving treatments and dealing with their health issues.

The service is offered Monday through Friday. “Our drivers are some of the friendliest people that I’ve every met and it just takes the burden off the family. Some people do have people that will bring them, but they have to work, so taking time off work is really hard. So we can alleviate that for people. It’s a completely free service that we offer. So we invite everyone that needs it, to come, we got a pretty brand new van still, just ready to go,” said Jensen. The Perkie Travels program is run solely on generous donations from community members and local businesses. If an individual is wanting more information about the PERKIE Travel Program they are urged to call Jensen at (435) 637-4950 or stop by the office at 10 South Fairgrounds Road in Price.

“So this year is our 35th year being open as an Independent Living Center in Eastern Utah. We started in 1988 delivering services to people with disabilities throughout of seven counties that we cover, it’s a huge area. So we just want to celebrate that, our 35th year and then just let the community know what’s available through us. PERKIE is a good example of one of those programs that people don’t know about, until they actually need it, and then they’re like I didn’t know that, how long has it been here,” said Haycock. The Open House event is a perfect opportunity for the entire community to come learn about the wonderful services and programs offered at Active Re-entry.

“So our Open House is going to be June 22, it’s a little ways away, but it gives people time to plan, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Just come in, say hi, you know if you’ve been an old PERKIE rider, come in and say hi, let us know that you are still here, and if you’ve been with us before come say hi,” said Haycock.
