Utah State University Extension – Emery County is excited to be hosting several fun activities and programs for the summer months. 4-H Coordinator, Cassie Thatcher stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details of this summer’s programs.

Parents should have received a schedule of 4-H programs being offered this summer in their student’s papers that they bring home from school. “We have a new summer schedule for our 2023 Summer and that went home with every third, fourth and fifth graders last week, beginning of this week, in the public school system. So check your kid’s backpacks for our summer schedule,” said Thatcher. This flyer has all the information on each of the programs being offered this summer.

This year’s Day Camp will be combined with students from the Carbon County 4-H Program. “Big event this year is Emery County Day Camp, its going to be combined with Carbon County. We’re going to have it on Wednesday, June 14 and it’s going to be at the Emery Aquatic Center from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. For $20.00 you can get a t-shirt, lunch, lots of fun, we’ll be swimming at the end of the day. The Emery County 4-H Teen Council is heading up all of the crafts and activities that day so come and have some fun,” explained Thatcher. There is a deadline to register for the Day Camp and you must do so on or before June 7, no late registration will be allowed.

The Junior Master Gardner’s Course is being offered as early as May 30, 31 and June 1. “We’ve got some Junior Master Gardner’s Classes that are starting as early as next week, those will start on Tuesday. Rowe Zwahlen our County Agent, is going to head those up. So come learn about the art and science of gardening with some hands-on activities, we’ll have some refreshments, and some fun for those couple of days,” said Thatcher. There is a small fee of $5.00 associated with this course to cover some expenses. Other clubs that are being offered this summer is a summer cooking camp, sewing camp, hiking club, Junior STEM Camp and art camp.

Parents that are interested in signing up their child for the Summer 4-H Program are urged to register their child as soon as possible. “So what you need to do is if you’re a parent please get on https://4h.zsuite.org/ register your child for 4-H. It’s a $10.00 enrollment fee and you pay that once a year and after that then some of the classes and camps will have registration fees besides that but there’s not more than $5.00 – $10.00. Day Camp is the exception for $20.00 for the full day. But once your registered as a 4-H member, you’re in,” explained Thatcher. Emery County students can also attend camps/classes in Carbon County too.
