Active Re-Entry is excited to be hosting an Open House on Thursday, June 22 at 11:00 am in recognition of its 35th anniversary of serving people with disabilities. Director, Terri Yelonek and Youth Program Manager, Chris Haycock stopped by Castle Country Radio to talk about Active Re-Entry services.

“You know we are so grateful to have been in the community for all these years and thankfully Nancy Bentley, who was the previous Director, we owe her a lot of thanks because she’s the one who got this agency and these programs started in our communities. We not only serve Carbon and Emery, but we serve seven counties in Southeastern Utah, and I don’t know if people often aware of that information,” said Yelonek. The organization serves people of all ages with disabilities and their goal is to help people become or remain as independent as possible so that they can live safely in their own homes and their own communities.

“We’re not a residential program, we’re a community-based program and so we do all kinds of services, provide all kinds of equipment, teach classes, what ever individuals may need to remain independent in their own homes and communities like I’ve said,” said Yelonek. Core services that are offered are Independent Living Skills Training, Information & Referral, Individual & Systems Advocacy, Peer Counseling & Support, Nursing Home Diversion & Transition, and Youth Postsecondary Life Transition.

There are several programs that Active Re-Entry offers community members. “So we have everything from assisted technology equipment that can be purchased by us for the individual at home, down to our loan bank, youth programs, community integration for adults that just need to be re-iterated into the community and learn those skills and do activities, PERKIE Travels is a big one that we do. We have four support groups, five support groups now with the TBI. So yea, just all sorts of different things,” said Haycock. The various support groups that they have are Grief Support, Caregivers, Active Access Support, Low Vision and the newest group is the Traumatic Brain Injury Support Group.

If you are unable to attend the Open House on Thursday, June 22 at 11:00 am but would like to learn more about Active Re-Entry and its services you can visit their website or social media pages. “So website, social media, we do Instagram and Facebook, we keep those very updated with everything, so check those out or just stop by the center too,” said Haycock.
