The Carbon & Emery Farmers Market have been very busy this last month and August is going to bring in more produce and fruit as the season progresses. This free event will be held at Sutherlands parking lot every Saturday from now until October 28. They will feature items from local farmers from both Carbon and Emery counties. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Event Representative, Desiree Richardson to get all the details about the market.

“So the last three weeks have been amazing, we’ve had a lot of community outreach and coming out and seeing us. We’re not to full vendor status yet, we’re still having early status of vendors who have early greens, and have peas, we have apricots that have been coming. We do have our craft vendors who have been coming, which includes like crochet, soap making. We have a popcorn vendor that comes every week. There’s a group that is bringing in fresh meat, so you can actually choose different cuts of meat and things like that,” explained Richardson. The Carbon & Emery Farmers Market has a Facebook page that they utilize regularly. You will find that each Friday a weekly menu is posted stating what items may be purchased on that Saturday at the market.

There are a few programs that are offered to anyone who has EBT/SNAP benefits. “If you’re not familiar with EBT, its also known as SNAP and it’s like food cards. You’re actually able to bring your card, we have a machine we can swipe it for the amount that you want. We exchange you for tokens, and approved vendors that sell food, you can take those tokens and purchase stuff,” said Richardson. There is also a coupon program for Senior Citizens who can also purchase items at selected vendors. If you want more information about either program visit the Information Booth at the Farmers Market.

The market opens at 9:00 am every Saturday folks are encouraged to come early as supplies/food items can be limited.  “So we’re hoping when everybody is already out doing International Days stuff, we hope to see you come back and see us, of course, at Sutherlands. You’re probably going to see some very early zucchini, apricots right now. So if you’re planning on making jams, that’s probably what you’ll see there too. We have beets and fresh carrots. We do have a vendor that brings in beef, so if you want different steaks, maybe for this weekend or a roast, she’s got stuff like that, that’s ready to go,” said Richardson.

Any individuals who wish to be a vendor at the Farmer’s Market or would like more information on the weekly menu are urged to visit the Carbon Emery Farmers Market Facebook page.
