The Miss Carbon County Scholarships Pageant has some new representatives for the 2024 year. This year has crowned Skylynn Basso as Miss Carbon County and Tatum Tatton as Miss Teen Carbon County. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with both ladies to find out about their platforms this year.
Miss Carbon County is a student at USU Eastern and a member of the school’s dance team. “So my platform is called Safe Steps – Safe Kids, and its all about educating the youth of Carbon County on what to do in emergency situations and how to administer basic first aid. I chose this because I have been in so many different situations where I’ve looked around and all I see is confusion and panic in people’s faces and I want to try my best to alleviate this,” said Basso. She hopes to visit all the schools in the area to teach them basic lifesaving skills.
Miss Teen Carbon County is a sophomore at Carbon High School and she hopes to get a 4.0 GPA while attending school. “My platform is called Be Fierce: Self-Defense Awareness. I focus on teaching kids and teens how to be confident in who they are, and not to be scared to go out and do what they need to do in life; and to keep them out of dangerous situations and how to protect themselves,” said Tatton. She also is looking forward to visiting all the schools, as well as the Boys & Girls Club to teach self-defense techniques.
Miss Carbon County’s court this year includes Miss Teen – Tatum Tatton, Junior Miss – Linaya Peacock, Little Miss – Payton Marrelli, and Mini Miss – Perri Michell. This is a great organization for young women in our community to step up be of service for their community and it’s a wonderful way to earn educational scholarships to further their education when the time comes.
