
The Emery Spartans welcomed the Carbon Dinos and the Richfield Wildcats to the Emery Aquatic Center on Wednesday for the opening meet of the 2023-2024 season. The Lady Dinos earned the top finish on the girl’s side while on the boy’s side, it was the host Spartans taking first.
The host Emery Spartan boy’s team claimed the top spot with a score of 712.5, followed by Richfield with 364, and Carbon in third with 356.5.
Adam Olsen was a huge contributor to the Spartans’ success both individually and on relay teams, starting with the 200-yard free taking first place in a time of 2:12.79. Olsen also claimed first in the 100-yard free. In the 200-yard medley Olsen, along with his teammates Tyson Laws, Kade Larsen, and Parker Jensen claimed the top spot in a time of 1:56.42. The team of Olsen, Jensen, Larsen, and Chase Huggard grabbed the top spot in the 200-yard free turning in a time of 1:43.41.
In the 50-yard free, Larsen, Trek Petersen, Huggard, and Jamison Christiansen went spots two through five. Jensen finished in second place in the 100-yard free, and Huggard also earned a fifth-place finish. Jack Bell went on to earn a fourth place in the 500-yard free. Laws finished in second place in the 100-yard backstroke, and Preston Hulse earned a third-place finish in the race as well. Jensen, Larsen, Petersen, and Zander Robinson all finished in the top five of the 100-yard breaststroke.
The Lady Spartans’ Melody Lake was a top finisher taking first place in the 100-yard breaststroke, followed by Carley Young, Purity Mason, and Acelyn Migliori in second through fourth. Lake also claimed a second-place finish in the 200-yard free. Lake, along with Mason, Annie Johansen, and Jessie Childs earned the third-place finish in the 400-yard free relay. Mason, Childs, Johansen, and Lake also swam to a third-place finish in the 200-yard free. In the 200-yard medley, the Emery team of Illyria Mason, Emma Grimm, Amy Sorensen, and Young earned a second-place finish. Individually, Lizzy Carroll earned third place in the 500-yard free.
The Lady Dinos earned the top spot on the girl’s side earning 514. The Lady Spartans finished second with 510 points and Richfield landed in third with 391.
In relays, the Lady Dinos made some noise with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay with the team of Jennacie Jeffery, Aylen Lyman, Lilly Thayn, and Ember Lyman. Jeffrey, along with Alyssa Chamberlain, Mia Crompton, and Kanyon Christensen claimed second place in the 200-yard free, and in the 400-yard free Hadley Bower, along with Chamberlain, Christensen, and Crompton earned a second-place finish as well.
Individually, Chamberlain finished first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:32.44, and Thayn finished in third. Ellie Hanson had a first-place finish in the 500-yard free with a time of 6:57.36. Ada Bradford finished in the top spot in the 100-yard backstroke with Chamberlain finishing in third. Bradford, Hanson, and Rachel Blackburn went three, four, and five in the 200-yard free. Lisa King and Crompton went two and three in the 50-yard free and in the 100-yard free King, Crompton, Evie Halk, and Bower finished second through fifth.
Cameron Jones had a great day in the pool for the Dinos taking first place in the 50-yard free with a time of 25.41, and another top spot in the 500 free with a time of 6:04.95. Mason Engar had his share of top finishes as well with a first-place finish in the 100-yard fly with a time of 1:05.71, followed by teammate Logan Kranendonk. Engar also took top billing in the 100-yard back. Jackson Thayn claimed second place in the 200-yard IM and a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke. Kranendonk and James Tullis finished second and third in the 200-yard free.
In relays, Engar, Jones, Kranendonk, and Bracken Hanson earned the top finish in the 400-yard free. In the 200-yard medley Engar, Thayn, Kranendonk, and Jones swam to a second-place finish, and in the 200-yard free the team of Cole Arthur, Ky Earl, Derek Stead, and Hanson finished in third.
Both teams will head to Cedar City this weekend to take part in the Cedar Invitational.
