Coming off their fourth place finish at the 3A State Championships, three members of the Carbon Dino golf team have been named to the 3A All-State team. Dayton King was given first team honors and teammates Rydge Butler and Kyler Clark were named to the second team.
Freshman Dayton King was definitely one of the highlights for the Dinos in a very successful season, ending the year with a gross score of 75. His best performance of the season came at the Canyon Hills Golf Course, the home of the Juab Wasps, where he shot a five under 67.
Clark, a senior, was named to the All-State second team for his performance throughout the season. With a 78 average gross score, he posted an even par 72 at the Canyon Hills Course as well for his best round of the year.
Butler made it through his junior campaign, with a 79 average score, to earn his second team honor. His best round of the season was a three-over par 75 at Palisades State Park Golf Course.
Coach Robbie Etzel was a guest recently on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports and had this to say about the returning members to the team for next season.
“You’ve got a junior, who will be a senior next year (Butler), who ties for seventh, two rounds of 74, two over both days, phenomenal golf. And then you have the King boy who will be a sophomore next year who ties for tenth, so it’s exciting that we’ll have both of those kids back on the roster for next year.”
The Utah Section of the PGA extends the honor of First Team All-State to the top ten golfers in each classification, the next ten are selected to the Second Team, and the next ten after that are selected to Honorable Mention.
The Utah Section of the PGA of America has been actively supporting high school golf for over 25 years. Twenty years ago they developed the Utah High School All-State Golf Program. The All-State Golf selection process is unique among all-state honors programs in that it is all by the numbers. Thirty-five percent of a players best region scores and sixty-five percent of their state championship scores are used to rank each player.
All First Team All-State players will be invited to the All-State Invitational tournament and Banquet at the end of May.
