Ned Eli Scarlet, age 66, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home in Cleveland surrounded by his family on December 2, 2023.

Ned was born on January 10, 1957 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ralph Henry and Phyllis Petersen Scarlet. In his younger years he grew up in the Salt Lake Valley where he attended West High School. While attending West High he was active in being an Officer in the ROTC Program. Ned graduated with the class of 1975 with High Honors. During Ned’s high school summers, he enjoyed his time working with his uncle Stan on his ranch in Soda Springs, Idaho. He was always appreciative to his aunt Edith for the homemade meals that were made after a long day’s work on the ranch.

Following high school, Ned joined the United States Marine Corps. He was proud of the time spent serving his country. He attended basic training in 1976 at Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California and shortly after served from 1976 – 1979 in active duty including in the Philippines. Ned was Honorably Discharged on September 13, 1979 and spent three years in peace time.

Coming home from the service, Ned spent his working career in the coal mines. He worked in several of the different coal mines in the surrounding area and he enjoyed his time spent there. He truly enjoyed the job and the friendships he made through the years.

Ned married Norma Pilling. They later divorced. He then later married Jeanie Davenport, and they also divorced.

Ned loved his yard. He had a beautiful yard and loved caring of it. He also enjoyed his morning walks around town with his dogs.

Most importantly, Ned loved his family. He would do anything for them and he loved them very much. He is survived by his children, Chantell Scarlet, Holly (Billy) Parsons, and Lacey (Johnny) Donan; grandchildren, Maddie, Megann, Autumn, Nevaeh, Merrick, Maisie, Liam, Maddox, Aalba, Mya, Jasmyne, Preston, and Scarlet; his loving sister, Julia Kitchen; brother, Lawrence Scarlet; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Phyllis Petersen Scarlet; son, Martin Eli Scarlet; and brothers, Peter, Richard, Martin, and John.

The family wishes to express many thanks to the Huntsman Cancer Institute and to CNS Home Health & Hospice; especially to Kim Mortensen.

Funeral service, Saturday, December 9, 2023, 11:00 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Cleveland Town Cemetery.
