The First Annual Scofield Icebreaker Fishing Tournament will take place on Jan. 5 and Jan. 6 at Scofield State Park and this year’s tournament funds will benefit a local 12 and under baseball team called Battle. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with Event Representative, Amanda Leonard to get all the details.

“Battle, 12U, for this next year, got accepted to the Cooperstown Tournament that happens in New York every year. Pretty famous, pretty big deal, it’s a week-long tournament, kind of a once in a lifetime opportunity. You have to apply for and have a pretty good record to even get accepted into that so very exciting. The team has a couple of boys from Emery, mostly from Carbon County, over there with some great coaches. This is a good way to try to help get them there and their families and the kids,” explained Leonard. This is an opportunity for these young athletes to represent the Castle Country area.

This fishing event will feature two tournaments in one. Friday the two-person team tournament will be held and then on Saturday will be the individual tournament with youth, women’s and men’s categories. “So on the website which is https://www.coalcountryevents.com/ it has some of the details on Friday and they’ll meet at 9:00 am at Madsen Bay. So Madsen Bay will be where the check-in and the measuring will all take place at. Friday registration is at 9:00 am and then fishing is from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday, that’s the two-person team tournament, $50.00 per person that day,” said Leonard. All participants must have a valid Utah fishing license that must be shown during the check-in process.

“Saturday the check in will start at 7:00 am and tournament will be from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and like I said all of that is at Madsen Bay. Saturday we will have youth, men’s and women’s categories, with some cash and trophies for those,” stated Leonard. Cash payout is based on how many people register for the tournament.  The cost to participate in Saturday’s individual tournament is $35.00 per person.  For more information and details on the First Annual Scofield Icebreaker Fishing Tournament please visit the website at https://www.coalcountryevents.com/
