The Carbon Lady Dinos wrapped up a busy weekend with a 1-2 record at the 2A/3A Preview in Richfield at the Sevier Valley Center Friday and Saturday.

Playing in the same venue as this year’s 3A State Championship Tournament, Carbon played two games in three days. The weekend trek started on a positive note with a 64-34 win over Millard.

Amiah Timothy was unstoppable in the first tilt of the day, posting a game-high 31 points to go with five assists, four steals and three rebounds. Adding to the performance was an electric shooting display as she connected on 14 of 22 attempts from the field.

Carbon wasted little time jumping out to a double-digit lead, carrying a 22-9 advantage into the second quarter. The lead continued to grow as Carbon dominated on both sides of the floor. Up 36-17 at the break, Carbon used a 26-8 run in the third quarter to put the game on ice.

Jacie Jensen poured in 13 points and handed out five assists in the win. Madi Orth was dominant on the defensive side of the ball as she registered seven steals and four blocks.

The Lady Dinos returned to the court later in the evening for the second game of the weekend, this time meeting up with the South Sevier Rams. Despite holding a 10-point lead entering the fourth quarter, Carbon was unable to weather a late South Sevier run in a heartbreaking 45-44 loss.

Kylan Sorenson led the way for Carbon as she posted 14 points and eight rebounds in the loss. Timothy stuffed the stat sheet with 12 points, seven boards, six assists and five steals.

Carbon struggled to find consistency from beyond the arc, converting just four of 17 attempts. The streaky shooting affected the Lady Dinos throughout the game as the team shot 34-percent in the loss.

The weekend trip ended on Saturday as the Lady Dinos suffered a second straight defeat, this time falling to the Kanab Cowboys 61-46.

Meeting for the second time this season, the two teams battled throughout the first half. Kanab created space in the third quarter by outscoring Carbon 13-7. A 21-point fourth quarter with timely free throws was enough for the Cowboys to earn the season series split against the Lady Dinos.

Timothy, Orth, and Jensen all scored 12 points, while Sorenson contributed six. Carbon again struggled from the field, hitting on just 34-percent on shot attempts.

Carbon now holds a record of 6-4 overall on the season and remains unbeaten at 1-0 in Region-12 play. Entering the final week before Christmas break, Carbon holds the No. 3 ranking in the UHSAA RPI.

The Lady Dinos will take the court one time this week before heading into a nine-day hiatus. The team will continue league play as they travel to Delta to meet the Rabbits Tuesday night at 7:00 pm.
