Our loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Jerry Tallerico Black, passed away on December 21, 2023 at McKay Dee Hospital from health complications after a long battle with heart disease.

She was born on October 19, 1942 in Price, Utah to Louie and Florence Nelson Tallerico.  She graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1960. Jerry attended college in Salt Lake City where she met the love of her life, Dixon Black. They married on December 26, 1961. They moved back to Helper and were lifelong residents of Carbon County. They welcomed two daughters Tammy and Tracy.

Jerry worked alongside her parents, Louie and Florence, at their family-owned Luigi’s Cafe until their retirement. She then had a very successful career with Arco Coal as a miner and warehouse supervisor. Jerry was one of the first female underground coal miners. Following her retirement, Jerry passionately pursued quilting, sewing, embroidery, cooking, and baking.  She was a gifted quilter and made several cherished quilts for her children, grandchildren, and the community. She enjoyed spending time with friends at the Carbon County Senior Center and trips to Nevada with her family.  Jerry’s pride and joy were her four grandchildren who she enjoyed watching them excel in sports, dance, cheer, academics, careers, and life.  She was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.

Jerry is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dixon; daughters Tammy (Duane) Sherman and Tracy Black-Cecchini; grandchildren Shyann (Andrew), JD, Lauren, and Emma; sisters LouAnn Varner and Mary Ghirardelli; sister-in-law Sharon Nicholson, and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Louie and Florence Tallerico; sister Sandy Tallerico Kveset; brothers-in-law Gerry Varner, Chuck Ghirardelli, Rick Kveset and Brent Nicholson; and nephew Richard Louie Kveset.

To honor Jerry’s wishes, there will be no services.  She was a donor to macular degeneration research.  There will not be a moment that goes by that she will not be loved and missed.

Arrangements are under the trusted care of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Jerry online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net
