The C.A.R.E. Coalition is excited to be hosting a free family night of bowling on Jan. 27 at 4:00 pm till 7:00 pm at Gateway Lanes in Helper. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Prevention Specialist, Alyssa Potter to get all the event details and to learn what the C.A.R.E. Coalition does.
“The C.A.R.E. Coalition our vision is building connections to strengthen community, and so if we can bring everyone out and have free events where you can come and spend time in your community, we can strengthen relationships, and overall be a healthier community,” stated Potter. The CARE Coalition is an acronym for Carbon County Addition Reduction and Elimination and they pride themselves in providing a safe environment that empowers youth to be healthy, successful and compassionate members of the community
This month’s activity is celebrating Parents Empowered Month which is a state wide and community education campaign developed for families to start the conversation about underage drinking. “Parents Empowered Month is January and what Parents Empowered is it’s a statewide campaign to reduce under age drinking. They focus on using the strength of the parent’s impact on their children and making sure that parents are communicating. Because the number one reason children choose not to drink, is their parent’s strong disapproval,” said Potter. Listeners have probably seen the campaign on television and hosting this community activity is a great way for families to bond and open those lines of communication on the tough subjects.
The free community event is open to all families in the Castle Country area. “So we’re really excited, we’re thankful to Gateway Lanes. Linda and Frank Marrelli partnered with us to provide the bowling alley on Jan. 27, it’s a Saturday and it’ll be from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Come out and your bowling is free. Spend time together, have fun. Just come, you don’t have to register or anything like that,” said Potter. The bowling alley’s concession stand will be open for purchases.
