It’s time to sit down with Emery County Commissioner Jordan Leonard who was happy to announce the upcoming Beat the Winter Blues Festival, highlight the Emery County Sheriff’s Department and talk Youth Entrepreneur Program. Castle Country Radio has the opportunity every other week to speak with the commissioner to keep citizens informed on the latest news and events.

The annual Beat the Winter Blues Festival is coming up on Jan. 26 and Jan. 27 in Castle Dale at the Rec Center. “So Beat the Winter Blues Festival this kind of gets people out of their house, it’s a little festival in the Rec Center, there’s booths, there’s food, entertainment, just a lot of fun,” said Commissioner Leonard. The festival is open to the entire community as this a great way to gather to visit with friends, family and neighbors.

With every radio interview with Commissioner Leonard, he always takes time to highlight a department for a job well done, and this week he’s shining the light on Emery County Sheriff’s Department. “So the Sheriff’s Office sometimes they, they get, maybe not overlooked but we wanted to highlight them and the good that they do in our community. They manage our fleet of vehicles for the county. They’re very proactive, they’ve had a few big drug busts in the last few months in Green River through I-70, trying to keep our community safe that way,” said Commissioner Leonard. So if you see members of the Emery County Sheriff’s Department be sure to take a minute and thank them for a job well done.

At the latest Commissioner Meeting there was discussion on the Youth Entrepreneur Program. “We discussed an MOU with Emery County and the Emery County Business Chamber regarding our Youth Entrepreneurship Program. That’s a partnership between Utah State University and the Small Business Development Center Office. So happy to have them involve the Business Chamber and then the county. Then we have other people that are involved that are interested in the youth learning how to be entrepreneurs. So that program will start next month, so keep your eyes out,” said Commissioner Leonard. The Youth Entrepreneurs program teaches youth how to develop and own a business of their own.

The Emery County Commissioners meet twice a month at 3:00 pm at the Emery County Courthouse at 75 East Main Street in Castle Dale. A schedule of meetings is listed on the Emery County website at http://www.emerycounty.com/
