Emery Spartan basketball was riding high on a three-game win streak, with home wins over Carbon, North Sanpete, and Juab. Wednesday night they were on the road in Delta, and the Rabbits came to play taking the win 62-55 in front of their home crowd.
The Spartans started the new year with three straight losses to the top three teams in the region, who also happen to be in the top ten in 3A, Richfield (No. 6), Manti (No. 2), and Canyon View (No.4). Emery would then go on their three-game winning streak. Wednesday night they traveled to take on the No. 18 team in 3A, the Delta Rabbits, and the Rabbits were ready.
In the first quarter, both teams came out not really knowing what to expect as the Rabbits came away with the slimmest first-quarter edge, 13-12. The Spartans never seemed to find their footing in the contest but managed to outscore the Rabbits by one in the second quarter as they tied the game up at 26 and they headed to the locker room at the half.
Delta came out in the third and made a run at the Spartans putting up 24 in the quarter taking a 50-42 lead into the final eight minutes. Emery couldn’t get over the hump in the fourth falling to Delta 62-55.
Luke Justice had 18 in the contest to lead the Spartans, Wade Stilson had 14, and Zack Tuttle scored 10 in the loss.
The Spartans now sit at 13-5 and slip to 5-4 in Region 12 play.
Emery will be back at home on Friday night for the final home game of the regular season, where the Spartans will celebrate their seniors as they welcome the Richfield Wildcats to the Spartan Center.
The Wildcats hold an 11-6 overall record going 7-2 in league play. When these two met up on the Wildcats home floor in early January, Richfield earned the 57-53 win
The live broadcast will begin at 6:30 with the Landon’s Diesel Service Pre-game show on KOAL 107.3 FM and 750 AM. It will also be available to stream at castlecountryradio.com, as well as on the Castle Country Radio app.
