
The winter sports season is getting ready to wrap up so the Carbon swim team invited teams from around the state to the Last Chance Invitational on Saturday. With nine teams in the boy’s division and 12 on the girl’s side of the pool, the competition was tough, but when the water settled the Lady Dinos claimed the top spot and the boys claimed fourth.
Union claimed first on for the boys, with 441 points, and Canyon View was in second at 373. Juan Diego, Carbon, and Richfield made up the remainder of the top five.
In the three relays, Carbon earned a trio of top-10 finishes. Ky Earl, Leland Kespel, Jackson Thayn, and Logan Kranendonk finished the 200 free relay in sixth. Earl, Kranendonk, Mason Engar, and Cameron Jones ended the 200 medley relay in fourth. The 400 medley relay saw the team of Engar, Bracken Hanson, Spencer Hepworth, and Jones finished in fourth place.
Individually, Engar claimed first place in the 100 fly turning in a time of 59.61, and fourth in the 100-yard breast stroke. Jones earned a second-place finish in the 500 free and third in the 200 free, And Hanson finished fifth in the 500 free.
The Lady Dinos earned the top finish on the girl’s side with 394 points, and Union claimed second in the 323. Richfield, Canyon View, and Grand made up the top five.
In the 200 free relay, Hadley Bower, Ada Bradford, Alyssa Chamberlain, and Mia Crompton earned first place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:52.39. Bradford, Lily Thayn, Evie Halk, and Kanyon Christensen took third in the 200 medley relay. Bower, Chamberlain, Crompton, and Bradford, finished the 400 relay in third.
Chamberlain swam her way to a pair of top finishes in the 50 free with a time of 26.35 and in the 500 free turning in a time of 5:57.67. Bradford had a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Lily Flores earned third place in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Halk finished third in the 200-individual medley. Crompton took fourth in the in the 200 free, Ellie Hanson took fourth in the 500 free and Maya Bower claimed fifth in the 500 free.
The postseason begins on Thursday in Cedar City for the Region 12 Championships.
