This week’s Carbon School District update shines a spotlight on Castle Heights Elementary and Principal Wendy Fluckey took time to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio to discuss parent/teacher conferences, attendance goal, and PTA.
The school’s mid-term third quarter will be on Tuesday of next week and with that comes parent/teacher conferences. “We have it the week of President’s Day weekend that Tuesday and Wednesday parent/teacher conferences, we’re excited to have that. Where parents are able to come in, meet one-on-one with their classroom teacher, receive the mid-year testing data, and just have those conversations about where their child is at and moving forward what we can do to help them grow,” said Principal Fluckey. Information about scheduling a parent/teacher conference will come home with students as the conferences get closer.
The school did mid-year testing right before the Christmas break and believe it or not the end of the year testing is scheduled to take place in approximately two months. “It is and its really using that mid-year data to guide our instruction so we can hit all those areas that we need to hit in order to be successful with our end of the year testing,” stated Principal Fluckey.
To be successful in school you have to attend regularly and recently the entire fourth grade was recognized for their attendance goals by allowing the entire grade to go bowling for an afternoon. “It was exciting when we did our first semester attendance, I was excited to see that I had 156 kids that met our attendance goal of 96 percent or better attendance, which means they missed four days or less for the entire first semester. We have some really great things going on and we’re getting our kids here to school,” said Principal Fluckey. She appreciates the efforts of parents making sure their students attend school each day.
Castle Heights would not be a success without their Parent Teacher Association (PTA). “First of all we have a phenomenal Parent Teacher Association, just great parents that are here in the building all the time. Continually doing whatever it takes to help our school be successful. Next week they’re going to be helping out with the classroom Valentines Day parties,” said Principal Fluckey. The PTA will be hosing their annual Book Fair during Parent/Teach Conferences to be sure to stop by with your student. Proceeds from the book fair help with school activities.
