The Emery Spartans were looking to close out a very successful season. On Friday night they traveled to Mount Pleasant to take on the North Sanpete Hawks. The Spartans used a big second quarter to solidify their lead taking the 63-53 win.

The Spartans closed out the regular season at 18-5 overall and finished with a 10-4 Region 12 mark, and for their efforts, they received the No. 2 spot in the final RPI.

Emery found themselves down by one at the end of the first quarter and went to work in the second doubling up the Hawks in the quarter to take a 43-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the second half, the Spartans used the lead that they had built to maintain the pace with the Hawks who started to come on in the second half as they would play even in the third quarter and North Sanpete out-scored the Spartans by two in the third, but Emery hung on to the lead taking the 63-53 win.

Luke Justice led the way for the Spartans with 20 points. Wade Stilson added 10, and Zack Tuttle and Matt Olsen each had eight in the win.

South Summit earned the top spot in the final RPI followed by the Spartans at No. 2. Ogden, Manti, and Richfield rounded out the top five.

Emery will have to wait until Wednesday night before they will know who they will face on Saturday. The Spartans will face the winner of the Ben Lomond/Summit Academy contest.
