The Manti La Sal National Forest has cabin and groups site rentals available for the public to enjoy as a getaway. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Forest Service Management Specialist, Myron Jeffs to get all the details.
“We have a variety of camping opportunities up on the mountain. For example, our developed campgrounds what you eluted to, think we have 26 developed campgrounds on the mountain. Most of those campgrounds have spots available for first come, first serve, and most of those campgrounds have spots available for reservations. We obviously encourage people to make reservations, it guarantees an occupied site for when they want it,” said Jeffs. There are campsites, group sites and even cabins available to rent for your trip to Manti La Sal National Forest.
Although we are still in the winter season, many folks are looking to book their summer gatherings now. “As you’re planning your events for the summer, we direct people to https://www.recreation.gov/ that is the site you go to make your reservation. But you can go there now, and search the campsites, and the campgrounds on the mountain and if you click on them, information will pull up on each one of those sites in regards to the types of amenities that are offered at that campsite, and the number of people that site is capable of accommodating,” stated Jeffs. You can also make rental payment for your campsite or group site or cabin on the https://www.recreation.gov/ website.
Not only are their campsites and groups sites available on the Manti La Sal but there are cabin rentals. “As many of you know, there were Ranger Stations that were build several decades ago, that were for the purposes of administering the affairs of the forest. Those sites, many of those sites, those old Ranger Stations, the guard stations have been converted to rental cabins. So we do have on the mountain here, we have six that we rent out all summer long,” said Jeffs. A few of the cabins have running water and toilets and other don’t but you can read the descriptions of the cabin on https://www.recreation.gov/
There is a wonderful app called Scan and Pay that makes securing a campsite easier. “A cool option that we’ve implemented called Scan and Pay allows visitors to use an app on their phone. If you’re not wanting to make a reservation in advance, if you’re wanting to just go on the mountain and find a site, this app allows users to use the app on their phone to pay for the site without having to come up with cash or a check on site,” stated Jeffs. Folks will have to download the app called recreation.gov and follow those download instructions.
