The No. 2 seed Emery Spartans punched their ticket to 3A State Quarterfinals with a dominating 61-35 win over No. 15 Summit Academy Saturday afternoon at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Emery senior Creek Sharp scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Spartans as the team earned its sixth consecutive win.

A spirited Summit Academy effort kept the game close through two quarters as the Spartans captured a 30-20 lead heading into the break. Emery took complete control in the third quarter as a 20-8 run put the Bears upset bid in the rearview mirror.

“Let me say great job to Summit Academy,” said head coach Dave Justice. “They can really shoot and score the ball, they are well coached, and we knew we were in for a tough game. I am super proud of our boys for coming out, staying focused and being ready to play.”

Wade Stilson flirted with a rare quadruple double as he put his fingerprints all over the game with eight points, nine rebounds, nine assists and seven steals. Zack Tuttle posted 12 points to go with six boards and six steals. Luke Justice and Mason Stilson contributed eight points each.

Emery’s defensive ability was on display from beginning to end as they held Summit Academy under 10 points in three of the four quarters. Colbyn Draper was the lone Summit Academy player to score in double-figures as he finished with 12 points.

The win allows the Spartans to advance to the final eight for the second consecutive season.

Emery will now shift focus to its quarterfinal’s matchup with No. 10 Judge Memorial Thursday afternoon at 12:50 p.m. The winner will move on to the semifinals Friday night against either No. 3 Ogden or No. 11 Union. The upper half of the bracket will feature No. 4 Manti against No. 5 Richfield with the winner facing either No. 1 South Summit or No. 9 American Heritage.

Live coverage of Thursday’s state tournament tilt will air live on KOAL 107.3 FM and 750 AM beginning with live pre-game coverage at 12:20. The game will also be available at castlecountryradio.com or with the Castle Country Radio app.
