Emery High School senior Brooklynn Ekker signed a National Letter of Intent to play softball at Colby Community College Monday night at the Spartan Center in Castle Dale.

Ekker, who is about to begin her final season of softball at Emery High School, signed the letter of intent in front of her family and teammates.

“A lot of the reasons I chose Colby is because of the coach,” said Ekker. “There were other factors, but I’ve just heard a lot of great things from the coaches I’ve had and the girls who are playing there now.”

As a sophomore Ekker became one of the most consistent offensive weapons for the Lady Spartans. Leading the team in batting average, runs, and hits, she earned a 3A All-State second team selection.

Last season Ekker delivered another outstanding campaign as she hit .458 with a .494 on base percentage, leading to another 3A All-State second team nod. She also led the team in stolen bases with 20 to go long with 38 hits and 23 runs.

“It was a very stressful process trying to figure out where I was going to,” said Ekker. “Now that I’ve made my decision, I feel like I can be more relaxed going into the season.”

The Emery Lady Spartans softball team will open the season on Thursday, March 7 with a non-region game against Providence Hall.

Following the ceremony Ekker talked about why she chose Colby Community College and also shared thoughts on the upcoming high school softball season. You can listen to the interview below:
