
The Dino track team took their show on the road over the weekend to Roosevelt to compete in the Strata Invitational at Union High School. The Lady Dinos grabbed another top finish and the boys finished in third on their side of the track.
The track season is all about getting your state qualifiers early, and that is what Carbon has been concentrating on in the opening month of the season.
The Lady Dinos grabbed the top finish with 141 points. Uintah landed in second with 136 points. Rich, Union, and Duchesne made up the remainder of the top five.
The relay team of Jordan Shorts, Josie Jespersen, Mia Crompton, and Brooklyn Lowe claimed a first-place finish in the 4×100, with a time of 51.38. Jespersen, Sophia Taylor, Gianna White, and Rozlyn Stowe finished the 4×400 in second. Lilly Peterson, Stella Smith, McKenzie Fredrickson, and Ellie Hanson ran to a second-place finish in the sprint relay as well.
Stowe earned another first-place finish in the 1600 with her time of 5:04.37, and Taylor finished in second. Taylor grabbed a second-place finish in the 800, teammate Ada Bradford crossed the finish in fifth. In the 3200 Hanson claimed second-place followed by Kaylee Pitcher in third and Taylor fourth.
In shorter distances, Crompton grabbed a third-place finish in the 200 followed by Lowe in fourth, Crompton also claimed fifth in the 100. McKinlee Sharp took fifth in the 100 hurdles, and White took a fourth-place finish in the 400.
In field events, Blythe Bradford finished in second in the long jump, with Shorts taking third, and Emily Dufour took third in the high jump.
Host Union earned the top finish on the boy’s side of the track followed by Uintah. Carbon, Altamont, and Duchesne rounded out the top five.
Carbon grabbed a pair of top finishes in relays starting in the 4×400 with the team of Bradley Sweeney, Evan Criddle, Maxwell Carlson, and Easton Humes turning in the time of 3:38.30. The sprint relay team of Carlson, Humes, Criddle, and Tanner Harker crossed the finish with a time of 3:49.13. The team of Cesar Mondaca Valenzuela. Carlson, Benjamin Simms, and Traxton Jewkes finished in fourth.
Humes earned a first-place finish in the 400 with his time of 52.10, and Criddle claimed second in the 800. Sweeney claimed third in the 300-meter hurdles. Michael Weber finished fourth in the 3200, and Dallin Humes fifth in the 1600.
Traxton Jewkes jumped his way to a fourth-place finish in the high jump.
The Dinos track and field team will enjoy the spring break Holiday and will get back to the track next Friday when they travel to Juab.
