GMS Mine Repair & Maintenance is hosting a Job Fair on Apr. 5 at 9:00 am till 1:00 pm at the SUFCO Training Center near Salina for individuals interested in jobs with the local coal mines. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with GMS Representatives, Matt Madsen and Kerrie Barker to talk about what GMS offers and about the job fair.

“We’re looking for any and all positions – entry level up to experienced. Look if you don’t know anything about coal mining, we’ll teach you. It’s been a great career for me and for many around the area and we can get you started,” said Madsen. The positions GMS is currently looking for are underground miners, maintenance, production and janitors.

The great thing about GMS Mine Repair & Maintenance is they will give you the training and certification you need to work in the coal mine. “We’ll offer you the 32-hour training class for free to our employees to get you started. Depending on which mine you go to, we can put you with some of our crews and start you out entry level, and teach you the basics and let you grow your career from there,” stated Madsen. The mines that they are looking to hire are SUFCO which is in the Salina area, Bronco which is south of Emery and Skyline which is up near Scofield.

Potential employees are asked to bring some items with them when they come to the job fair. “So they can bring a resume or they can apply online at https://www.gmsminerepair.com/ You’ll need two forms of I.D. also when you come to the job fair,” said Barker. Any interested individuals wanting to get into the mining industry stop by on Friday, Apr. 5 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the SUFCO Training Center located at 597 State Route 24 in Salina, Utah or give GMS a call at (970) 312-7404.
