011-7

Boy’s volleyball is taking part in its first season in existence. The Dinos have made their way to this point of the season and sport a 1-11 record.  Friday morning the Utah High School Activities Association released their first RPI rankings and Carbon holds the No. 12 spot.

For most sports, the UHSAA releases their RPI rankings, which are mathematically created based on the following formula- (45% x MWP) + (45% x OWP) + (10% x OOWP)

  • MWP (Modified Winning Percentage): Divide the number of possible points by the number of total available points from games played accounting for the adjustment between classifications.
  • OWP (Opponents Winning Percentage): Average of the winning percentage of a team’s opponents (Note: this is not calculated via the combined record of the opponents, but rather by averaging the winning percentage of the opponents).
  • OOWP (Opponents’ Opponents Winning Percentage: The same process as OWP except the calculation is with the opponents of the team’s opponent.

Grantsville sits atop the rankings with an RPI of .557533, American Heritage Academy is in second at .554451. North Sanpete, Salt Lake Academy, and Utah Military Academy- Hill Field rounded out the top five.

Carbon hasn’t played any region contests to this point, that changes on Tuesday when they travel to Salt Lake to face Judge Memorial. The conference consists of  No. 3 North Sanpete, No. 10 Judge Memorial, and  No. 9  Juan Diego.

The Dinos won’t be back home until Tuesday, April 16, when they welcome Juan Diego to Price.

Game time is set for 6:30 p.m..
