006-8

Crucial errors led to a late Manti rally as the Carbon Dinos suffered an 11-8 region setback on the road Tuesday afternoon.

Overcoming an early 4-0 deficit with a five run third inning, the Dinos were unable to hold off the pesky Templars, who produced three runs in the sixth frame to take the lead for good.

“The first inning we had a couple of errors that essentially cost us four runs,” said manager Rob Smith. “Later in the game in the sixth inning we another error that they scored three runs there. It’s tough to win a ball game with crucial errors that cost us six or seven runs.”

In just the second region loss of the season, the Dinos committed four costly errors. The Dinos out hit the Templars 11-7, but also left five runners stranded throughout.

Peyton Molinar continued his hot streak at the plate as he finished 3-4 with two extra base hits and an RBI. Molinar is now hitting .354 on the season to go along with a .475 on base percentage.

Jace Barlow ended 2-4 in the box with two RBIs. Michael Vigil finished with two RBIs, while Maizen Prichard hit two singles in a 2-4 effort with one RBI.

Maddex Willson tossed three innings for the Dinos, allowing four hits and four earned runs, while fanning four batters. Manti managed to plate three unearned runs during Willson’s time on the mound. Trevor Williams worked three innings for Carbon as he too gave up three earned runs.

Carbon will now take the next three days off before wrapping up the season series with Manti on Friday at home. The Dinos will enter Friday’s game ranked No. 4 in the latest RPI, while Manti is currently No. 6

“We just want to do the simple things better,” said Smith. “I think it’s the simple things that are hurting us right now. This is a great group of kids, and they are tough to beat when we play clean baseball. We saw that last week against Canyon View and now it is just going out and doing it.”
