The Spartan baseball team had a pair of games on Thursday and Friday. Things started on the road at Cedar City when they suffered a 12-1 loss to Canyon View. On Friday, the North Sanpete Hawks came to Castle Dale and the Spartans took the 11-2 win.

After the pair of games, the Spartans are sitting at 13-7 and 6-3 in region play. They also hold the No. 5 spot in the latest RPI.

In the contest on Thursday, the Spartans traveled to Cedar City to face the Canyon View Falcons (13-6, No. 2) in a game originally scheduled in early March.

Emery had a tough time finding offense in the contest, but the same could not be said about the Falcons, who could put runs on the board in every inning. The Spartans put one run on the board in the top of the fifth when Hayden Abrams sent a triple to center field driving in Beau Stilson to make the score 12-1. With a more than 10-run advantage, Canyon View ended the game in five innings.

Abrams had just one hit and the RBI for Emery. Trevin Gilbert and Peyton Alton each collected a hit in the loss.

On the mound Wade Stilson got the start going three innings giving up 10 hits, eight runs, six earned, and struck out two. Gilbert closed out the game going one, with two hits, four runs, two earned, and struck out one.

On Friday, the North Sanpete Hawks came to Castle Dale. Emery put runs on the board in the first five innings, and they also were able to keep the Hawks off the board for the most part, taking the 11-2 win.

North Sanpete scored a single run in the top of the first as the Spartans came back to put up a pair in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead. Going into the bottom of the fourth with the score 5-2, with two outs and two on Turner Stoker stepped up to the plate sending a ground ball to right field Quayd Oveson and Gilbert would cross the plate pushing the score to 8-2.

In the fifth, Trygg Jensen would continue his great freshman season with a triple sending home Alton, The Spartans would add two more in the inning and then hold on for the win 11-2.

Hayden Christiansen had three hits and an RBI for Emery. Jensen and Stilson both had a pair of hits, two RBIs, and two runs scored. Tyce Larsen had a pair of hits and RBIs.

Abrams got the start and the win on the mound going four giving up two hits one earned and striking out three, Christiansen came in to close things out with three innings of work with three hits and struck out two.

The Spartans will have a busy week with a game against Juab and then an away and home with Richfield.

Emery travels to Nephi on Monday to face the Juab Wasps.
