Castle Country Radio is excited to have the opportunity to sit down with USU Eastern’s Director of Students, Kevin Hurst to talk about what is taking place at the local university. He was excited to come in to talk about FAFSA, commencement, and Fall 2024 registration.

There has been some issues with Financial Aid and Hurst wants students to know that they are working on the problem, “So FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and with some changes that have been made packages and awards through that process have not been sent out to students. So we want to make students aware that we’re working on the packaging in conjunction and collaboration with the government, and we’re hoping that those awards will be going out very soon. But don’t panic, this is like you said nationwide but we’re working on our end as diligently as we can to get those packaging and awards out to students.” Due to the issue with FAFSA, USU Eastern has extended their scholarship deadline to August 1, this will allow students more time to apply if they choose to.

Commencement will be held on Saturday, Apr. 27 at 10:00 am on the campus of USU Eastern inside the BDAC.  This year’s keynote speaker is a familiar face, it’s former Senior Associate Vice President, Greg Dart. “It was a tough sell but we’re excited to have Greg Dart come back and for him to up and leave I know that was sad for him because he has a lot of relationships on campus so it will be good to have him back and give him some time to address the students,” said Hurst. Dart left USU Eastern last year for a position at Western Nebraska Community College.

Currently, anyone interested in taking courses for Fall Semester 2024 can now register for classes. There will be more emphasis put on outdoor recreation programs this year as Hurst explains, “We live in what I would say a gem and a gold mine as far as activities and outdoor recreation so we want to lean into that a little bit more as a campus. We’re going to develop for Fall and outdoor rec series and classes that students can take to really embrace and engage the awesomeness of our community and what available around us.”
