The Price City Library is a great place for students to go during the summer months especially if they choose to be a part of the Summer Reading Program. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Library Assistant, Tonya Kulow to get all the details.
Registration for the Summer Reading Program will begin on May 1. Any parents that would like to have their child be a part of this program are urged to get them signed up at the library. There will be three different groups for the summer as Kulow explains, “The Little Group, we call them the Littles and those are our Story Time kids, 0 to five years of age, and we just do their time for their program right during Story Time. You can just sign them up, them come, they do a craft, we read a story, we have a snack. Then we give them reading logs, that early age starts a reading log, and if they do the reading, then we give them prizes.” When the entire group completes reading logs, they will then have a party to celebrate. This group will meet on Mondays and Wednesdays at 11:00 am.
There is also opportunities for students ages 6 to 8 years who are considered the Middle Group, and also for students ages 9 to 13 years who are considered the Tween Group. “Then we also have a 6- to 8-year-old group and they meet on Tuesdays at 1:00 pm and then we have Tween Group that meets on Thursdays at 1:00 pm,” said Kulow. The Summer Reading program is a great way to keep students reading during the summer months when school is not in session.
Each year the Summer Reading Program has a theme and all of the activities are geared around that theme. “It is Adventure Begins at your Library. The Tween Group will be making memory boards, and first aid kits for some of the themes that we have going on. The Middle Group they’ll be making straw rockets and rollercoasters out of marshmallows and toothpicks and many other things. So we have some great themes this year,” stated Kulow.
