Thursday night the Lady Spartans traveled to Mt. Pleasant to face the North Sanpete Hawks. The Spartans asserted their dominance in a big first quarter and then held the Hawks at arm’s length for the remainder of the game taking the win 62-45.
Emery came out in the first quarter, and the basket must have looked huge. They scored 31 while using their defense to hold North Sanpete to just 10. Moving into the second, Emery would slow things down. They were able to put up 11, but the period was much more competitive for the Hawks. They scored 13 to cut the deficit to 42-23, heading to the locker room at halftime.
The second half was all about keeping distance for the Lady Spartans. Emery once again was methodical in the scoring. They were able to hold the Hawks to 12 and add 15 more to their total to bring the score to 57-35 as the two teams headed to the final eight minutes. In the fourth, North Sanpete would come out looking to take advantage of the second team being inserted for the Spartans, but could only muster 10 points while holding Emery to five and the Emery Lady Spartans collected their seventh win of the season 62-45.
Katelyn Neilson and Sage Curtis each scored 15 for Emery in the win with Nielson adding three rebounds and three assists as Curtis pulled down four boards. Megan Stilson and Skylee Guymon each collected eight, Guymon had five rebounds and Stilson collected four assists in the win.
Emery will welcome the Juab Wasps to the Spartan Center on Tuesday night.
