In the lead-up to Ash Wednesday, Ascension St. Matthew’s Church is preparing to host the 2026 rendition of its annual Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper. Pastor Angela Chacón joined the KOAL newsroom to preview the event and what attendees can expect.
“Fat Tuesday is a time in which we eat and be merry, because the next day is Ash Wednesday, and it begins Lent, and it begins the time for fasting, and for abstinence, and those kinds of things,” explained the pastor. “So we want to have a lot of fun before we begin the season of Lent.”
To do this, the church hosts an all-you-can-eat pancake supper that also features eggs, ham and a drink.
One aspect that makes the event stand out is its price point: tickets cost only $10 for an individual and $30 for a family of four. For those unable to attend in person, takeout orders can be placed by calling 435-299-3355.
Also, as part of the celebration, ASM hosts a Mardi Gras costume contest, encouraging attendees to break out their fanciest masks and feathers. “We’re asking people to come out in their best Mardi Gras costumes, bring your beads, your feathers, whatever it is you want to make out of your costume, and we will enter you. And may the best person win.”
Other activities include a game of ‘Who is behind the mask’ and the opportunity to explore the church’s gift shop.
Tickets for the event can be purchased in advance from ASM congregation members or online at www.ascensionstmatthewsprice.org. Additionally, tickets can be purchased at the door on the day of the event.
“Last year, because the community is so generous with Ascension St. Matthews, we in turn were able to be very generous with other people who were in need,” explained Chacón. “We were able to give a fair sum of money to different food ministries in our community last year, and I’m hoping that we can do the same this year.”
Ascension St. Matthew’s Fat Tuesday Pancake Supper takes place on Tuesday, Feb. 17, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the church located at 522 North Homestead Boulevard. To purchase tickets or for more information, visit www.ascensionstmatthewsprice.org.
