
The Carbon Dino baseball team got back on the field after the Spring Break holiday when they traveled to Mount Pleasant on Tuesday to take on the North Sanpete Hawks. The game was tied 4-4 headed into the bottom of the seventh when the Hawks earned the win off a sacrifice fly to get the 5-4 victory.
The Dinos are sitting at 6-10 overall and 0-3 in Region 13 play. In the latest MaxPreps rankings, they sit at No. 9.
Carbon was held scoreless until the top of the sixth when Cash Withers stepped up to the plate with Logan Bennett on second and one out as he sent a fly to center, bringing Bennett in to score off an error and Withers advancing to second. One batter later with two outs, Paxton Falk would smack a grounder to third, bringing Withers home to cut the Hawks’ lead in half at 4-2.
The Dinos kept North Sanpete off the board in the bottom of the sixth and moved into the seventh as Bennett stepped in, sending a sacrifice fly to center, bringing Maddux Willson home. Jordan Nichols sent a grounder to right to let Kaden Sandoval score and tie the game at 4-4. The Hawks would plate one run from a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to take the 5-4 win.
Willson went 1-3 with a run scored, and Withers was 1-4 and scored a run for the Dinos. Falk went 1-3, and Nichols was 1-4 with an RBI. Brody Ware was 1-3, and Bennett scored a run and had an RBI in the loss.
Xander Pappas got the start on the mound, giving up five runs, two earned, on four hits, and struck out seven in six innings. Curtis closed out the game.
On Friday, the Dinos will welcome the Hawks to Price.
