Friday afternoon was a good day to go to the ballpark at Carbon High School, as the Dinos welcomed the American Leadership Academy Eagles to town. Looking to break an eight-game losing streak, the Dinos never trailed, adding three runs in the sixth to take the 7-3 win.
The Dinos are sitting at 7-14 overall and are holding on to the No. 10 spot in the latest MaxPreps rankings.
Carbon would get on the board early when a Cash Withers single drove in Logan Bennett. The Dinos would hold the Eagles for the next three innings while they went to work. Brody Ware would come up in the bottom of the third and drive in Maddux Willson on a line drive to center to put the Dinos up 2-0.
In the fourth, Willson stepped into the batter’s box and brought Karsen Sandoval home on a line drive to center. The Eagles would get on the scoreboard in the fifth, but the Dinos came up to bat, and Jacen Urbanik would bring in Jordan Nichols with a sacrifice fly to right field to put the Dinos up 4-1.
At the top of the sixth, American Leadership would cut into the Dino lead, scoring a pair of runs to get the score to 4-3. Carbon, however, found more offense in the bottom half of the inning, starting with a double from the bat of Withers. Three batters later, with one out and the bases loaded, Ware came up and was hit by a pitch to bring Withers in. Urbanik returned to the plate and collected his second and third RBIs of the day when he hit a single to left, bringing Paxton Falk and Kanyon Grant in for the score, pushing the lead to 7-3. Carbon closed out the Eagles at the top of the seventh to take the win.
Bennett, Withers, and Willson all went 2-4 in the game, with Willson and Withers adding a run and an RBI each and Bennett scoring one for Carbon. Fallk was 1-3 with a run scored, and Urbanik was 1-4 with three RBIs in the win.
Willson got the start on the mound, going five innings, giving up one earned run on five hits while striking out three. Grant put in one inning of work with two runs on one hit, and Xander Pappas went one with a hit and struck out two.
The Dinos have three games remaining in the regular season, with the first on Tuesday, when they will welcome the Emery Spartans for Senior Night. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
They will be on the road for the last two contests, traveling to Morgan on Thursday and then wrapping up the regular season on Friday in Castle Dale against the Spartans.
