Friday, the Carbon Dino boys’ volleyball team traveled to Mount Pleasant to face the Wasatch Academy Tigers for a pair of games. The regular season is coming to a close, and the Dinos looked as though they were ready for the playoffs, collecting wins in both 3-1 and 3-0.

Carbon holds a 6-14 overall mark and was sitting in the No. 8 spot in the MaxPreps rankings that have since been removed until the final day of the season.

In the first match, Carbon would claim the win in straight sets 3-0.

The opening set was the closest, as the Tigers pushed the Dinos, but Carbon would fight through for the 25-23 win. Set two showed a little separation between the teams, as the Dinos took a 25-16 win and then turned around to close out the Tigers 25-19 to take match one.

Carter Warburton collected 18 digs and 15 kills for Carbon. Bryken Preston had 26 assists and eight kills, and Grant Sherman collected 11 digs and eight kills.

In match two, the Tigers were able to sneak one past Carbon, but the Dinos still took the 3-1 win.

In the first set, the Dinos came out on top in a battle that seemed to be brewing throughout, taking a 25-19 win. Set two was even closer with Carbon earning a 25-23 win, but in set three, the Tigers finally broke through to take the 25-21 win. The Dinos bounced back, however, in the fourth to claim the 25-13 win, closing out the Tigers 3-1.

Preston collected 31 assists in the match for Carbon. Warburton had 17 kills to go with 15 digs and six blocks, and Dylan Black had 20 digs in the win.

Carbon will close the regular season on Tuesday, traveling to take on the North Sanpete Hawks.

On Wednesday, the final rankings and the bracket for the 3A State Championships will be released, with the opening round to start on Saturday at home sites.
