The Carbon Dinos are two wins away from a Region 12 championship after topping the North Sanpete Hawks 8-4 Friday afternoon on the road in Mount Pleasant.

Trailing 4-3 entering the second inning the Dinos scored five unanswered runs to earn their fifth consecutive win. The loss for North Sanpete keeps them winless, and two games back of Richfield for the final playoff spot awarded to the division.

After a four-run first inning from North Sanpete the Dinos made a pitching change, bringing in Chase Morgan. Morgan was brilliant throughout the remainder of the game, giving up just four hits and striking out eight in six innings to log the win.

Jayden Flemmett led a consistent offensive performance for the Dinos finishing 2-4 at the plate with three RBI. As a team Carbon recorded 11 hits, and scored runs in four of the seven innings. Morgan helped his own cause offensively, finishing 1-2 with two RBI.

The season-series sweep of North Sanpete sets up a highly important three-game set against Canyon View, which will decided the Region 12 championship. Carbon is currently in second place, just one loss behind Canyon View.

The two teams will meet three times, twice on Tuesday in Helper, and once more on Friday in Cedar City. Two wins from either team clinches the region crown. Tuesday’s double-header is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m..
