Continuing a tradition of giving back to the community at Emery High, the 2026 senior class gathered on Monday, May 4, for the school’s annual senior service day.

Operating on both ends of the county, the project had students beautify communities in exchange for donations to the school’s graduation party.

On the south side, Molly Christiansen explained the scope of their work: “We cleaned around the cemetery fences and filled in prairie dog holes to make it look pretty again.”

Christiansen continued, explaining how the process helped her connect to her hometown, noting that her favorite part of the project was “getting to know the people who work in our towns and getting to know them better. And letting them know that there are youth out here who do want to help.”

Students on the south side of the county work to beautify the Emery City Cemetery.

Representing the north side of the county, Logan Huntington shared the work the group performed: “We went to Cleveland and went to the cemetery. We were pulling weeds. We originally started at the park. Then we walked for a while, all the way down. It was like a mile or so. We walked all the way down the cemetery, and we were pulling weeds at both, and you’re just having fun.”

Huntington added,” We went to Elmo, and we were doing weeds, too, and went around all the cemetery plots and went around pulling weeds, and it was kind of cool going around, seeing all the cemetery plots. Then at Huntington, we worked over kind of near the middle school, and we were just like picking up trash.”

Both students also shared advice for the next generation to step into the hallowed halls of Emery High, with Christiansen sharing,” Get involved. Sign up for everything. Be in all the clubs, be in all the activities, show up to events. It’s so much more fun if you just get involved.”

Huntington focused more on the academic side,” No matter how hard schoolwork is, it’s not that bad. Your GPA does matter … Live life how you want to. You’re the only person whose opinion matters.”

The seniors now set their sights on Emery High’s graduation, which is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20, at 7 p.m.
