The Carbon County Sheriff’s Office has received several complaints from business owners regarding a few members of the community dumping their personal garbage into a business’s dumpster which is illegal and falls under the state statute for Theft of Services.

On April 1, Carbon County Officials begin to impose a rate to residents when using the conveniences of the landfill. Residents would only be required to pay a mere $5.00 per load, while a business would pay by the ton starting at $20.00. Many merchants have seen a substantial jump in their monthly bills, plus a visual increase of personal, household garbage inside their dumpsters.

At the time of implementing the landfill rates it was made very clear to residents that anything that was disposed of outside of the landfill would be charged double the normal rates. Nevertheless, there are a few individuals that don’t agree with the new landfill rates which has lead them to find other means of disposing of their garbage. Not only are businesses being effected, but also throughout the backroads on the ATV/UTV trails located around Airport Road.

Carbon County Sheriff’s Office is giving notice to individuals that if they are caught placing garbage into another person’s or business’s garbage bin and a complaint is made, it could result in criminal charges. Law enforcement officials also ask for assistance from the community by reporting illegal dumping, which in turn could result in a $250.00 reward from Carbon County.
