The holiday season brings a family tradition for some to head up to the mountain to hunt for that perfect tree to cut down.  It’s then brought home to be beautifully decorated and enjoyed for Christmas. Now once the holiday is over, many individuals are eager to get rid of their tree because it’s no longer fresh and can pose a significant fire hazard. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is making disposal of Christmas trees super easy this year, no longer do you need to head out to the landfill.

“When they’re done with it they don’t have to take it to the dump, they don’t have to worry about it, all they have to do is bring it by our office on Carbonville Road here in Price,” stated Conservation Outreach Manager, Morgan Jacobsen. “We’ll have a trailer in our parking lot to put their tree in and that tree will be used to enhance upland game habitat.” For Emery County residents that would like to recycle their trees may drop them off at Desert Lake WMA located just outside of Elmo.

“We have some great upland game habitat here is southeastern Utah, but we can make it even better by providing more cover for some of these birds,” said Jacobsen. The time frame to take advantage of recycling real Christmas trees will be from December 25 to January 10.

Any questions about recycling your tree please call the DWR office in Price at 613-3707.
