The USU Eastern Choirs and Castle Valley Chorale and Orchestra present Messiah a long-standing holiday tradition in the Carbon County area. This event is set to take place on Sunday, December 8 at 7:30 pm inside the USU-Eastern Geary Events Center. This event is open to the entire community with the exception of children under the age of 8 years old.
This yearly concert is put together by local singers and musicians. They are currently accepting musicians who wish to be a part of the performance, as Choir Member, Leif Nelson explains, “No one is paid to be in this, we all do it because we love it. This is a work that has been around for 275 years and still is as popular today as it’s every been if not more. It’s a wonder piece, wonderful to listen to and even more fun to participate in.” Anyone with musical talent are invited to participate and can find more details about the performance by visiting the Eastern Utah Messiah Musicians Facebook page.
At this time rehearsals have begun and are held every Sunday. “Our standard practice time is Sunday evenings at 7:00 pm that’s at USU-Eastern in their Central Instructional Building (CIB) that’s the big main building at the north of 400 East. Inside there’s a music room/chorale room that’s where we practice Sunday nights at 7:00 pm. There’s also, Larry Martin is working with his group Wednesday nights, he has rehearsals at 8:00 pm, eight to nine to work on Messiah pieces as well with his choir,” explained Nelson. Musicians that wish to participate are welcomed to attend both choir practices if they choose to.
The songs performed have to do with the birth of Christ. “If you just have not experienced the Messiah before, you need to come see this wonderful production. From the prophecies all the way through the crucifixion, resurrection and the whole work is about the life of Christ,” said Nelson.
