In a definitive act of dominance the Emery Lady Spartans earned their first Region 12 victory of the season 89-8 over the Grand Red Devils Tuesday night in Moab.

Defensively the Lady Spartans were on point throughout the evening, allowing no more than three points in any of the four quarters Tuesday night. The win moves Emery to 1-2 in region play and 8-6 overall.

Senior Hailey Allred scored a season best 20 points as Emery shot a combined 58-percent from field. Kiri Cook and Bailey Jacobson both notched 12 points as a total of 12 players scored at least two points in the win.

Most of the damage done offensively came inside the perimeter as a Emery converted just four three-point shots throughout the contest. Shooting 79-percent from inside 19 feet, the Lady Spartans ended with 34 two-point field goals.

Megan Zunich led the Red Devils with five points in the setback. The Red Devils remain winless in region play and drop to 1-11 overall on the season.

Ranked No. 6 in the current RPI the Lady Spartans will next return to the court on Thursday with a lengthy road trip to Blanding to face the San Juan Broncos. The Broncos will enter the tilt ranked No. 8 and share an identical 8-6 record overall, but have yet to record a region win following losses to Richfield, South Sevier and Carbon.

Thursday’s contest will be the final of the week for Emery. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m..
