David Loyd Place, age 68, passed away on July 6, 2016 at the Canyon Rim Nursing Facility in Salt Lake City after battling early onset dementia/Alzheimer’s.

He was born on April 26, 1948 in Glendale, AZ to Norma Jean McGee and Melvin Place. He was raised in Oklahoma alongside his 3 younger sisters, and countless cousins that he loved dearly. At the age of 15, during a stay in Utah, he met the love of his life, Patsy Marshall. They were married on October 11, 1968 and together they raised their daughter, Christy.

Dave served in the Navy during Vietnam, worked 20+ years in the coal mining industry, and then owned and operated the Hi-Way Apartments in Carbonville. Throughout his life he enjoyed many activities including fishing, water-skiing, and family vacations. He was especially fond of bowling and made many life-long friends through the leagues he participated in.

He was a loving father and grandfather, always trying to teach them something, even if Patsy deemed it inappropriate. His family was truly his pride and joy. Although he will be dearly missed, we are grateful that his struggles are over and he is reunited with his love.

Survived by his daughter, Christy Colombo; grandchildren, Derek Johnston, Ryan Johnston, Zac Colombo and Rachel Colombo, all of Chandler, AZ; his sister Debbie; nieces; nephews; aunts and uncles, cousins, and brothers and sisters in-law.

Preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Pat; his parents; sisters Diane and Donna; and his son-in-law, Paul Colombo.

Dave’s wishes were for a simple, private graveside service, which will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price where friends are always welcome and may share memories of Dave online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
